IT Performance Engineer

To maintain Performance, Monitoring and Stability of core trading platform and integrations within the IT Operations team. Ensuring performance, monitoring and alerting of production systems along initial triage of performance, monitoring or stability related incidents, with a focus on maximising uptime, performance and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

 Support root cause analysis of stability and performance issues and suggest corrective actions.

 Suggest improvements to steady state of core platforms with a focus on performance, monitoring and stability.

 Provide capacity planning support to network engineers and DBA's to pro-actively manage capacity.

 Produce trending reports for storage and server capacity.

 Regular reporting of SLA / KPI's on the production systems along with forward trending analysis.

 Work closely with DBA, Technical Operations and Release Management teams to pro-actively apply performance and stability fixes to the production environment.

 Work with Non Functional Test team to validate test results for performance and stability.

 Investigate, resolve and mitigate service-impacting events in conjunction with IT System Engineers.

 Assist in the implementation of automation of operational tasks.

 Maintain focus on key end user performance metrics to ensure that Customers and Colleagues are working in a performant manner.

 Overall responsibility for the operation of production application monitoring systems.


 5 years IT experience as a Performance Engineer.

 A detailed knowledge of application and infrastructure monitoring tools with emphasis on Dynatrace, Solarwinds, Perfmon, ManageEngine.

 A good working knowledge of ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Cherwell, JIRA.

 Deep understanding of system events, triggers, event correlation and alerting.

 Ability to write and understand scripts in languages such as Python, Ruby, Bash, Powershell, etc.

 A demonstrable analytical approach to problem solving and pro-active monitoring, performance capacity planning.

 Ability to report on production systems performance and capacity.

 Previous experience in working with browser based applications particularly those using Websphere, JAVA and GOSU.

 Previous experience working in and troubleshooting in a highly transactional environment with time critical documentation using products such as FileNet and Thunderhead would be advantageous.

 Hands-on experience with load-testing products.

 A proven ability to review log files from diverse systems and use of enterprise log tools such as Splunk.

 Experience in Automating and orchestrating tasks to improve performance and stability of systems using a variety of tools.


 Degree level qualification in Computer Science or related subject.

 Guidewire and/or Dynatrace qualification(s) are advantageous
