Finance process consultant (12 month ftc)

Process & Infrastructure (PI) in Group Finance acts as the main point of contact on all matters relating to finance policies and processes.

This role is responsible for initiating changes to the finance systems and takes an active role in projects, providing key finance input into process design. This role also provides guidance and advice, specifically in relation to matter management and billing, to the members of the global finance community on finance policy and process issues including SAP related guidance

Key Dimensions

This role provides support, advice and solves systems and process related problems for all finance systems users in all offices.

This role is integral to driving changes to policies, processes and finance systems in conjunction with other senior members of PI through consultation with finance managers in all offices. This role will be involved in major cross functional projects to fully exploit the firm's investment in SAP.

No direct staff or budgetary responsibility but may manage external parties on certain projects.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges

1. Provide input and solutions to finance policy and process changes which arise from:

* changes in the regulatory framework (UK GAAP, SAR, IAS, HMRC etc);
* Finance led initiatives or chances in strategy; and
* improvements to SAP related processes.

This will involve consulting with other senior members of Finance, the practice and all offices to find innovative solutions and to gain buy-in for change. This may also involve discussion process changes with clients or other external parties.

2. Advise all finance users on policies and processes.

Provide focused support to offices to comply with policies. Ensure that local requirements are understood and solutions found that, whilst complying with global policy, also address specific local needs. Apply policy diplomatically ensuring appropriate buy-in.

Document policies and processes for inclusion within the Finance Manual. Challenge offices where local practices do not meet best practice or follow business process and influence local Finance Managers accordingly.

Provide support to other business services functions and the practice in a pro-active and professional manner.

3. Develop and deliver training programmes for the implementation of Finance policies and procedures for finance users within the firm and the global finance network.

Following local office visits, secure appropriate cross functional support to drive through agreed actions.

Provide training to the practice on Finance related processes (i.e. time recording, NIM).

4. Initiate changes to Finance processes and develop processes for new Finance initiatives.

Improve end-to-end global business processes through process efficiencies and increased automation using technology and sourcing. This will include involvement in major cross functional projects to fully exploit the firm's investment in SAP and close working with the Business Processes Directorate.

This may involve:

* writing detailed specifications and liaison with end users;
* liaising with Technology department;
* ensuring appropriate testing of process within systems;
* project management of Finance led projects;
* writing and providing communication and training to end users; and
* involvement in cross functional projects.

2+ years with exposure to ERP systems.

Significant exposure to SAP, especially R/3. Evidence of expert-status in field.

Good understanding of accounting principles and processes

Practical experience:

Involvement in a SAP R/3 or other ERP implementation focussing on business process design

Minimum 2 years finance experience with strong accounting skills ideally gained within Linklaters or another law firm/professional services environment in a role giving exposure to business processes.

Practical experience of implementing, enhancing and/or day to day running of a Global Finance system
