About Cloud and Virtualisation Service Management
The Cloud and Virtualisation Service Management team is part of the IaaS Business Support. It provides 24x7 third-level and engineering support across all supported Server and Desktop Virtualization technologies (i.e. VMware ESX, KVM, OpenStack) within the firm. Serving the Business and IT communities and providing both run-the-bank and build-the-bank coverage, the service aims to link Business and IT priorities, pro-actively improve the environment through monitoring and automation, and so ensure Virtualization and Cloud technologies continue to underpin the growth of the firm as a whole. The Team runs a Follow the Sun (FTS) model with staff in London, New York & Lithuania.
Overall purpose of role
Virtualisation VMware Specialist, based in Vilnius, Lithuania with a direct reporting line to the Virtualisation and Cloud Service Management Operations Lead (based in New York). Accountability for 3rd level operational support relating to the global Virtualization and Cloud estate.
* Current knowledge and hands on experience of VMware ESX/ESXi 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, Virtual Center, Linux KVM software technologies as well as HP and Cisco UCS server hardware technologies.
* VMware Certified Professional preferred.
* PowerCLI and/or PowerShell skills an advantage.
* Exposure to OpenStack Cloud OS a definite advantage.
* Working knowledge and demonstrable experience of supporting MS Windows and/or RHEL on virtual platforms.
* Experience working with MS SQL and Power Shell an advantage.
* Structured technical problem solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis.
* Experience working with Service Now an advantage.
* Strong customer liaison and relationship management skills.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Must be able to work under pressure, take clear ownership of issues and drive to ensure successful closure for the customer, peers and IT Production.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
Working as a part of a global IaaS support function for Cloud and Virtualisation with primary focus on Management framework encompassing maintenance, project, structured incident, change, problem, risk, capacity and performance management.
Decision-making and Problem Solving
As a member of L3 Team, the candidate is expected to be the escalation point for L1/L2 Teams as well as developing, managing and documenting processes for lower tier teams.
Build and maintain strong relationships with peer organisations across support and engineering as well as the customer base (i.e. application teams).
Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
