Conflicts Operations Manager - Contract role, HSBC

The Conflicts Operations Manager will be required to manage the maintenance of the conflicts clearance database, watch/restricted lists, information barrier approvals and research clearances.

Impact on the Business/Function

* Obtain transaction update/ follow-ups from business in order to update the conflicts clearance database
* Apply applicable watch and restricted lists additions e.g. based on deal timings and ongoing deal updates
* Remove applicable watch and restricted list entries based on timings and ongoing deal updates
* Review and analyse wall crossing requests and liaise with the business in order to manage information barriers
* Perform research reviews and research approvals
* Preparing and distributing the relevant MI for the process to relevant stakeholders
* Act as an individual contributor to ensure service delivery of above tasks as per the standards agreed, taking into account key operational risk (including people & processes) and ways to mitigate them while operating in a well-defined control environment
* Continuous review of processes with the objective of improving the service delivery timeframes and identify areas of improvement
* Initiate and implement as well as ensure participation in high-impact quality projects leading to operational efficiency and higher productivity
* Perform effective IT input (e.g. system testing) and provide for any adhoc tasks
* Exercise high degree of governance and control mechanism

* Relationship Building - The Conflicts Operations Manager will be required to communicate with business executives across all relevant business lines in order to update relevant deal information.
* Knowledge - The Conflicts Operations Manager is required to have an excellent working knowledge of the typical issues in relation to conflicts of interest within financial services. This knowledge should cover situations across investment banking, asset management, private banking and retail banking.
* Regulatory Excellence - It is expected that the Conflicts Operations Manager will have an excellent working knowledge of the relevant laws, rules and regulations relevant to conflicts of interest.
* Policy Management - The Conflicts Operations Manager will be required to review the current policy framework that covers conflicts of interest and related matters and provide observations and recommendations setting out where improvements can be made.
* People Management - It is expected that the role will have direct reports and that the Conflicts Operations Manager will supervise direct report to facilitate their ability to achieve individual objectives.
* Project and Budget - The job will involve the implementation of a change program of work and whilst the Conflicts Operations Manager will not have full responsibility for this program it is expected that they will have specific responsibilities or sub projects covering the conflicts operations workstream.

Experience Required

* Experience of working in the global financial services industry is essential.
* Experience of dealing with legal and regulatory matters and confident interaction with others including external stakeholder e.g. regulators.
* Proven track record of managing change in a global regional and local structure.
* Experience of creating, leading and motivating a team.
* Experience of working within a matrixed environment preferred including reporting internationally.
* Ability to lead change, contributing to joining up with the other teams in Risk, Compliance and Business globally.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills (strong written and oral communication skills demonstrated by a history of writing reports and making oral presentations to senior staff either within the HSBC Group or similar).
